Educator Requirements

  • Criminal record checks (for all persons residing in the home, 18 years and up)

  • Child intervention checks (for all persons residing in the home, 18 years and up)

  • Medical fitness letter from a Doctor

  • 3 personal references 

  • Current “child care first aid” certificate 

  • Proof of home insurance with $1,000,000 liability and vehicle insurance with $2,000,000 liability

  • Completion of toy and equipment inventory 

  • Fire extinguisher/ smoke detectors on every level/ carbon monoxide detector

  • All medication, vitamins and herbal remedies to be secured with lock and key

  • Child monitors in all rooms where children sleep

  • Child safety gates, if necessary

  • First aid kits for home and outings, (car, stroller or backpack)

  • A health Canada approved crib in accordance with standard 4B of caring for an infant 

  • Agency staff must meet your family at least twice

  • Read provider information binder and complete forms (i.e. menu plan, daily schedule etc.)

  • Consultant must complete “Home Study“, ensuring all safety measures are in place and necessary paperwork is completed. 

Approval Procedure

The first step is to contact our agency to book a visit with our Coordinator. The approval process includes three home visits, and all household members must be present for at least one interview. During these visits, we complete:

  • Orientation & Home Study

  • Safety and Home Setup

  • Policies and Contract Signing

Like any small business, there will be some startup costs, depending on what you already have. The following requirements may involve expenses:

  • Criminal Record Check

  • Medical Certification

  • First Aid Course

  • Fire Safety Equipment

  • Child proofing materials

  • Toys and equipment

  • Insurance

Once approved, should you require assistance with these startup costs, the agency can provide support through short-term loans.

Your Rose and Velvet Consultant will review your application and conduct an interview with you. If your interview is successful, your Consultant will follow up with you to guide you through the remainder of the dayhome process.
